Richard’s Hot Wings

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

This is little pub in Windsor, Ontario nestled in the downtown area.  We heard about this place from a business associate when mentioning our love of wings and all things spicy.  Well our friends in Windsor have a place know for their novelty “Crunchy Chicken” and wings that are hot enough to send you tongue bathing in the Detroit river.  Their “Crunchy Chicken” has a very unique breading that will make you reminisce about your childhood.  Their wings… well there is a seasoning that literally requires you to sign a waiver before eating.  If (and that is a big “if”) you finish the wings they are free.  Most surrender long before then.  You have been warned!  They also have an awesome take on a Bloody Mary that helps cool the wings heat.

Northern Chinese

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

For those of you who enjoy Chinese food, this is a family favorite of ours.  This restaurant is nestled in the United States northern neighbor Canada, in Detroit’s  sister city of Windsor, Ontario (which is actually south of Detroit).  This is one of those places you stumble across and return time and time again.  We appreciate the friendliness and love the food. This restaurant is very modest but serves up a great dining experience.  Our family dinners usually include their “sticky bread” (steamed or fried), crispy green beans, and General Tso’s chicken.  The dress is very casual and the atmosphere is great for a dinner conversation.  So Canadians get ready for a little trip and Americans get out your passports or enhanced driver licenses for an international dining hunt.

GPS Dining Challenge: The Chapatti (Royal Oak)

Friday, June 19th, 2009

This is an easy one to find.  Many know of this site as the place to go after the bars close in Royal Oak for their spin on the baked potato.  This is a  true mom and pop eatery, nestled quietly in the otherwise exciting nightlife. Pull up at a table and enjoy your food while looking at the “old world” pictures on the brick wall.   The eatery is family friendly and with a great staff.  Over the last year a buzz has started about a new dish called the “Chipatti” that was reinvented by the owner, Marilyn.  If Marilyn is there, be sure to ask about the pictures and her name.
